Does anyone who is researching Scottish Family History know what has happened to the TalkingScot web-site and Forum?

For the last few days I just get the message "Address Not Found"

A quick look at the registration details seems to indicate the the site doesn't exist...

A nose around the web found this notice, posted by one of the TS admins -

"The company who owned the server shut it down giving no prior warning to those whose sites were stored there, it seems. TS is not the only web site affected - there are several others leaving posts to the same effect on the web - it came as a surprise to everyone, not just TS. Efforts are currently being made to connect TalkingScot with the new server."

So it looks like the hosting company simply did a bunk. Presumably TS will be back once they can find a new host.

According to the blog I mentioned above, they made a full site backup a week before the server went AWOL, so hopefully it will allow pretty much everything to be sorted very swiftly.

Must admit that this is a new one on me - the hosting outfit simply pulling the plug without warning. A timely reminder for us all to make regular backups I guess...

Mark is right in that Talkingscot will be back when a new host is found. All is being done to rebuild the site elsewhere.


It appears our hosts have disappeared without any warning and we're working on rebuilding the site elsewhere. Please bear with us and we'll let you know as soon as we're up and running again.

We are looking at how best to rebuild TS with a new host. It will take time. Please bear with us.

Us TS mods have tried to contact those we could but do keep an eye out for its return. I will pm you when it is up and running again.

It will be back in the near future.Andrew is busy resurrecting the site which as you know is a time consuming task.
The links etc are aviable at talkingscot.co.uk/ which shows the site under construction.
Also a cautionary tale of the need to back-up our info!
