Does anyone know how I can establish whether an area in Hull was a gyspy encampment.
I have my g g aunt & uncle - brittannia boss marrying william wilson in 1848.
The marriage certificate clearly states both of them were living in New George Street, with no particular number.
Her father - Riley Boss (whom I already have gone far back on the boss/boswell sid) was a horse dealer.
His father was James Wilson occupation - Hawker.
Brittannia died in 1849 so I am struggling to find william after the date of marriage.
I am wondering if the area of New George Street was a gypsy encampment.
Again William Wilsons brother George Wilson married Brittannias Sister Deliah Wilhemina Boss but I am unable to trace a marriage. Was it common between the travellers on occasion for them NOT to officially marry.
