View Full Version : Can you help me identify these uniforms?

These are photographs of my Grandfather, Rees Jones, born 1893.

I know nothing of his service, so I'm hoping if I can at least identify what regiment he served, I can find out more.

The first picture shows him in a large group - on the back of the photo my late Father has written "Ghajn Tuffieha Male Voice Choir". Now I know from googleing that Ghajn Tuffieha is in Malta, but that's pretty much it.

The second picture is him in the group in more detail, showing the uniform.

The third picture is again him, this time possibly on horseback.

Does anyone have any ideas, or suggestions how I can take my investigation further??

Looks more like he was serving in the Army Service Corps to me Finbar going by the badge.

I think you might just be right, don! This image from a Google search for "Army Service Corps" has a very similar look:

I would have said by the leather bandolier in pic 3 that he was in a mounted/cavalry type of unit. Also the capbadge seems too straight at the sides to be RASC. It may be worth looking through Yeomanry/Cavalry cap badges to try and get a match.
