I have some family members who lived on Parliament Street in Liverpool in the 1870's (as obtained from a marriage certificate). It turns out that both people were living there at the time, Nathaniel Crossland was with no immediate family and his wife to be Elizabeth Cleminson also had her parents there.
The thing is that the Clemisons were from Ulverston while Nathaniel Crossland was from Hoylandswaine over in the West Riding of Yorkshire.
Later the whole lot of them (Nathaniel, Elizabeth, her parents and Richard, her brother) moved to Hoylandswaine by 1881 after the first 2 children of the marriage were born.
Now I'd just like to know can anybody tell me what the area was like at the time. Both Nathaniel and Elizabeths father had the occupation of plate layer at the time of marriage. Was this to do with the railways and if so, was it likley that both were involved in building railways towards Liverpool from their original homes and ended up living there afterwards or would they have come straight to Liverpool to work their?
While none of this is of huge importance, I'd really like to know more about how these ancestors of mine lived and what brought them all to Liverpool. It looks like both Nathaniel and Elizabeth come from families which pretty much stayed put for generations in their respective parts of the country before they were born, so the fact they met up in Liverpool, both so far from home, is quite a miracle.
