Welcome to the B-G forums

There is lots of information on the subjects you have mentioned on other threads delaing with your Kent family.

To begin with something basic, what period is this?

You may find that there are photos of the pub (along with school records) at Oxfordshire Record Office, in Cowley.

The church registers will be kept there, The Oxfordshire FHS may have published transcripts if you find difficulty travelling to Cowley.

Have you found your chap in any census returns? If you do not know where to look for these, please ask.

Hi

You can also look him up in trade directories. Giving the two greats, I can only assume the time frame is 1850-1880 time?

You would think so Ben, but in the OPs profile, it states that they ran the pub until 1960! Unless that is a mistake in the dates..... Perhaps means 1860?

I did find this:

Bampton and Weald Economic history (http://www.british-history.ac.uk/report.aspx?compid=15917&strquery=malt)

The Malt Shovel, north of Lavender Square, had a malthouse probably by the mid 18th century when it was owned by the maltster John Minchin, and passed later to John Ward, maltster, and to Ward's son-in-law Richard Hambidge, maltster and spirit merchant, before becoming a public house in the 1870s.

Hi

I have just looked at the 1841 to 1901 censuses for any John Kent's in Oxfordshire and cannot find any at Bampton.

As Mark said, if you look at adyfenemore's profile then you will see this refers to 1960, as I discovered after trawling the census.

I would hold fire until the OP can give us more details I think.
