Hiya Everyone,
I found my GG Grandad's information on Ancestery.
George Edmund Harris. born in 1839. just found out he was actually born in Belgium. then it looks like he came in the UK about 1860. he married Martha Moore. born in 1840. i cannot find were about in Belgium he was born or were he got married. i just know they had their first child in 1865. in the UK i found them on the census pages. i cannot find them on Free BMD. or 1837 on line.
i am trying to get his birth certifcate and marriage certificate. but i have hit a brick wall. i even went on the Belgium message boards. but no luck.
has anyone else got any ideas?.

Mistey Uk.Mistey,
I can't help you with obtaining your GG grandfather's birth or marriage certificates but have you taken a look at the IGI? There are 15 listings for HARRIS surnames in Belgium -- mostly for Oostende, West Vlaanderen. Unfortunately, none are Georges but maybe there's some sort of connection to your GG grandfather. Worth looking in to...
Good luck.

If he was the son of someone in the army, try The Index to Regimental Registers of Births 1761-1924 - and also - The Index to Army Chaplains' Returns of Births; and Marriages; and Deaths 1796-1880. These are kept at the FRC in London - they have also been copied onto fiches are available at many Local Studies' Libraries/County Record Offices in the UK.
There are also, indexes to Foreign and Consular Registers of Births, and Marriages and Deaths 1849-1965 - granted this won't have his birth, but it may just show a marriage, which is at least a step forward.
At The National Archives (TNA) in Kew are a series of foreign registers, for Belgium there is:
RG32, RG33/1-2 and RG33/155 - Baptisms and burials 1817-1852 in Antwerpen.
RG33/3-9 - marriages 1816-1890 in Brussel.
