If anyone has access to the 1851 Sussex census, would really appreciate a look-up please.

Have just discovered that Susan Hathorn died in Hastings in 1849, probably during/after the birth of her son. It's a bit of a long-shot, as I have no idea how on earth they ended up in Hastings, but am wondering if the rest of the family could have been there still in 1851. It would be Hugh Vans Hathorn, John Vans Hathorn, Henry Charles Dalrymple Hathorn and possibly a couple of others (can provide names if need be).

Hi there

Have checked the 1851 census transcription for Susan Hathorn relatives - but non are present here in hastings in 1851 except Susan whose burial I found in the registers of St Mary-in-the-Castle as follows

Susan HATHORN This Parish 27 Aug 1849 Aged 32

Have checked my Memorial database for same, but there are no entries for Susan

Hi again Debbi

Have just looked through the Baptisms of St Mary-in-the-Castle and found the following:-

18th August 1849, Baptised John Vans HATHORNE, son of Hugh Vans and Susan, of Wellington Square, Hastings, Occupation - Bengal Civil Service.

As John Vans baptism is only a few days before Susans death and burial, could the two be connected and she died because of complications after child birth.

Wellington Square was a very fashionable part of town, where many of the houses had their own ballroom that overlooked the gardens of the square.
