An interesting book I found at the Internet Archives (address below) shows the monetary values of the time,
Hugh.:)
eg.
Average weekly wage.
Carpenter..10 shillings,2 and three quarter pence.
Mason..9 shillings,10 and three quarter pence.
Pair of Sawyers..19 shillings,one quarter pence.
Tiler or Slater..9 shillings,8 and three quarter pence.
Tiler's help..5 shillings, 3 and three quarter pence.
Artisan's Labourer..6 shillings,7 and three quarter pence.
Agricultural Labourer: first class..6 shillings, 4 and three quarter pence.

Hi Finbar, it's good isn't it, I only wish that the Archives would get the one book I'm really after,

in Cornwall
By Charles Henderson - 1937.

Hi

Very interesting. I think most of us have ag lab ancestors but they fed the country and we have to admire them as they dug ditches, and weeded and did back breaking work in all kinds of weather from the blistering heat to the ice cold frost covering the fields and vegetation.
