Can anyone tell me if there is an on-line index to wills proven by the Commissary Court of London please? I'm hoping to find one for Henry William Davison who died in Fulham in 1911 and I think the will (if it exists) falls under their jurisdiction...

Thank you.

From 1858 all wills were proved centrally in the Probate Registry, not in the church courts. This page (http://www.hmcourts-service.gov.uk/cms/1183.htm) tells you how to have a postal search done and get a copy of any will or grant of administration that exists.

(You didn't mean 1811, did you? )

If the questioner does mean 1811, it's not so straightforward that one can just point to one single court. The situation in the London area was particularly convoluted.

The most useful resource is probably David Wright's London Probate Index. At least part of it, certainly surnames A-E, can be bought on CD and may be found in many London repositories.

Hello both...thank you for responding.

Yes, I did mean 1911 but I made the silly mistake of not reading something properly hence the daft request! Since posting, I've discovered the whole process is far simpler than I thought but appreciate the time taken to put me right...note to self, read things properly!!!!|oopsredfa
