Hello
I'm hoping for a bit of advice about where to look to find my direct maternal-line ancestor Elijah Turner, who said on the 1851 census that he was born in Cheadle but I don't think he was!! As he did probably come from someone not too far from Cheadle i.e. north Cheshire or south Lancashire, I shall post this on both sites.

What I've found out about Elijah:
born abt 1813
married AnnArden in 1832 in Northenden, North Cheshire
1841 census: living in Staffordshire but said 'No' to being born in County.
1851 C - not found
1861 - living in Ashton under Lyne, had birthplace as Cheadle Cheshire as did his wife.
1868 - died and buried Ashton

I just can't find his baptism.
I've checked the LDS films for bapts for Cheadle, Northenden and Stockport - nothing. His wife was bapt in Cheadle - so p'haps Cheadle against his name is wrong? I assume he was baptised (if his parents chose a biblical name like Elijah they must have had him baptised, surely?). All later generations were C of E and he was buried in C of E, so I'm assuming he was anglical.

So where can he be? What can I try?

I don't know the area well but I'm assuming that he probably was born not too far from Cheadle but this could be either in Cheshire or Lancashire. I'm determined to find him so I'm taking a trip up to Cheadle/Ashton in July to try and track him down.

I'd be very grateful for any suggestions as to where I should look for him
