Hi folks, wonder if anyone can help me with this?

I have Jane Lord - Christened 23 May 1808 St Peter & St Paul, Handborough, Oxfordshire, England

Her parents were William Lord b c1788 location not known but possibly Oxfordshire, and Elizabeth ? b c1776 location not known.

Any info regarding the marriage of William and Elizabeth would be very helpful as this has now become a sticking point. |banghead|

Thanks LordOfKent

This is the only relevant marriage on the OFHS's Oxfordshire Marriage Index (1538-1837):

27 OCT 1805 - William LORD to Elizabeth BALDWIN at Ducklington

There's nothing later, and the only earlier one is in 1757.

Thanks Pennie that appears to be the one I'm looking for. Is there any other info available for it such as parents, addresses etc?
In fact ANY other info |help|

William is the earliest ancestor on my dad's side so hope to find a further generation back from this.

There is a baptism at St Giles, Oxford on 8 February 1778 of an Elizabeth BALDWIN daughter of Edward & Elizabeth (source Oxfordshire FHS PR Transcripts). This Elizabeth does not seem to have been buried at St Giles as a child nor was she married at St Giles - perhaps a possiblity as Oxford is not too far from Ducklington????

Hi Janet, am I reading this wrong or missing the point you made? |oopsredfa

If Elizabeth was buried as a child anywhere she wouldn't have got married anyway? :D

John,

The inference was that if Elizabeth was buried as a child at St Giles, Oxford she could not be your Elizabeth as she would have been dead. Similarly, if she married at St Giles she was probably not your Elizabeth who married at Ducklington.

Hi John

Been having another look around for you, though this might be of interest to you there is no place called Handborough in Oxfordshire but there are Long Hanborough and Church Hanborough Villages out Kidlington way, not far from Ducklington which is near Witney.
St Peter & St Paul Church is at Church Hanborough. I will send you a PM of
Church Web site.

I'd say that the Elizabeth Baldwin that Janet found born at St Giles is the right one, just a gut feeling I have, it made the hairs on the back of my neck stand up when I read Janet's post. LOL.

Thanks for the info about Handborough, but was still a bit confused as if you view Hanborough in GoogleMaps it shows as a separate place with Long Hanborough to the West on the A4095 and Church Hanborough to the South at the other end of Church Lane. I suppose the 'Hanborough' is just a name for the general locality.

Re Elizabeth Baldwin, don't look behind you. |nutkick|

I've just had a little chuckle. I'd be very careful you.

I'd be very confused if I used Google Maps LOL, tried it, don't like it, so don't do it, will admit though that my Road Atlas is one I half inched (pinched) from one of the sons and its 1997, old one like me.

But seriously I always though it was Long Hanborough but like every place I expect its grown now and the area must now be called Hanborough, its quite some time since I lived in Oxfordshire.

Regards Sandy
Still chuckling.
