We went down to Roche to look at the area where they lived - and witnessed the Solar eclipse from Roche Rock - spectacular!

William later moved to Glyncorrwg in South Wales, presumably for work.

Thank you very much for your assistance.
All the best, Jan

I realise this is an old post.

Is there any connection between the Stephens family in Roche and the Stephens of st Winnow?

I'm looking for the birth of Philippa Stephens who was married to William Santo in 1827 in Lostwithiel, but the kids were all born in St Winnow.

I cant find her birth in St Winnow, but there does appear to be a person of this name born in Roche in 1802. But I have no proof that this is the same person.

I have Stephens ancestry from St Winnow - so far I have gone back to a marriage in 1640.

Hello Burrow Digger,
This is entirely possible as I have a Mary Jane Santo born 1840 in St Winnow who married a Philip Brewer Liddicoat from St Columb Major. If you Email me direct I will put you in touch with someone researching the St Winnow Santos. :D

Philippa Stephens was supposed to have been born and/or baptised in 1802 & married in 1827 :)

If she was born in 1815, she would have been 12 when she got married in 1827.

Of course I do realise that she may not have been baptised as a baby, but unless her age was specified, this 1815 date is somewhat unlikely.

BDThe only Stephens i have found before in the period 1800 - 1807 are
8 June 1801 Abigail of Thomas and Jenefer
7 June 1802 Joyce of Thomas and Jenny
1 Jan 1803 Thomas of Thomas and jennifer
no Phillipa until 1815.

How ever Marriage registers before 1929 a girl could marry at the age of 12 and a boy at 14 but a parents consent was required.

I am researching Santo. I would love to get in touch with someone looking at their line. My nephew and I have a fair amount of information but are firmly stuck in late 18th century. All information welcome especially any connection with the Liddicoats, South Australia and (possibly!) Japan.
