Hi,
Can anyone help me with this : A birth certificate for a child born in 1921 in uk has a notation in the margin "Adopted" followed by the superintendant registras name.
I know that until 1927 there was no formal process for adoption, and children were often left with family.
The child's birth was registered a month after birth, by her natural mother.
I would like to understand what reason there would be for this to happen, does it mean that some formal procedure took place and if so what? Would it of been added later to certificate?
Many thanks for any help to clear this up,
Kate
