I'm trying to find any trace of Ammadine Booth, b c1852 who went on to marry Napthali Smith in 1890. There's nothing appearing in 1851 or 61 but I've found the couple in
1871 - RG10, 3294, Folio 44, Page: 6 and
1881 - RG11, Piece 3182, Folio 61, Page: 25

What's making it worse is that on IGI there's an Ammadine Smith bap 31.7.1852, Willoughby Waterless d/o Charles Smith - who was she?? with such an first name I can't help thinking she's related

Does anyone have any suggestions on this one before it drives me completely mad, pleeeeease ???

Many thanks

BG :)

Does she say who her father is when she eventually marries?

Interesting that Great Peatling and Willoughby are just 1 mile apart. And there appears to be no GRO reg for either Amadine Booth or Smith, but it should be remembered that not everyone had got the hang of registering births at that stage.
I would be searching the PR's for both parishes for any scrap of information. Is it possible that the name of Booth was a total fabrication at the time of the marriage for reasons best known to themselves? There was no sign of Booths in the area in the census, but several Smiths.

As I said I would be scouring the contiguous parish registers, but that depends on how much you need an answer!

She married in Jun 1/4 1890, Oakham Rutland and her marriage cert shows her father as Nathaniel Booth (Deceased). So I'm guessing that she was aactually a Booth, but there's no guarantee.

I rather suspect that the family went AWOL on the day of the census, but I thought it was worth asking on here to see if I'd missed anything.

Many thanks

Hi BG,

I suppose you've seen the earlier Ammadine Booth, bapt 1836 at Knipton Leics, d/o James and Sophia Booth?

Is he the James Booth who is on one of the later census' aged 100 with his daughter Cinnamenta?

I'm wondering if the two Ammadine's are one and the same person, and that one of the fathers is incorrect, perhaps a step-father or something?

Jo.

Hi Jo

As far as I can figure out the Cinamenta who appears with James Booth in 1881 is his daughter, as is the Ammadine born 1836, the one who's on IGI. Ammadine, the elder also appears with her parents James & Sophia in 1861 - RG9 Piece 2303. Folio 27, Page 13. Ammadine then appears on subsequent census returns and has several children including a James, presumably named after her grandfather?

The Ammadine I'm looking for is the d/o Cinamenta, who appears to have been named after her aunt and is therefore the grandaughter of James Booth.

I've now found them in 1891 and then Ammadine died Dec 1/4 1892, but Napthali's there in 1901:-

1891 Census - both there + children

RG12 Piece 2544 Folio 113 Page 39

In 1901 Census Napthali appears as Napthele along with some of the children

RG13 Piece 3011 Folio 120 Page 13

By 1891 Laura, their eldest has left home and is working as a general servant for a farmer

RG12 Piece 2717 Folio 123 Page 1

By 1901 she's married a George Austin in Mar 1/4 1892 and has children :-

RG13 Piece 3011 Folio 120 Page 14.

By 1901 John has also married:-

RG13 Piece 3011 Folio 79 Page 28

Again by 1901 another daughter, also an Ammadine has married an Arthur Bland in Dec 1/4 1900

RG13 Piece 3001 Folio 33 Page 21

but still no trace of them prior to 1871. Still I'll keep going and let you know if I find anything.

Just to reinforce the idea that Ammadine's father was Nathaniel Booth, Cinementa's death cert. in 1914 describes her as "widow of Nathaniel Booth, horse dealer (deceased)" and was informed by Mary Booth Grand-daughter, but she was calling herself Cinementa Smith! So who knows :)
