on purchasing our property recently we were sorting out the garage when i found a box containing some stone jars and a stone hot water bottle with screw opening in top. when did these cease to be made. can anybody offer any sugestion to time i know they were about in victorian times.

Have no idea when they ceased being made but I can remember having them when I went to stay with my grandparents back in about the very early 50's (mind you they also used flat irons heated on the wood stove!!) Have you googled it at all?

No idea when they stopped making them but we certainly had them in the 50's....great till they went cold!!............and they were not adverse to leaking........however with ice on inside of windows you wre greatful foe any kind of heat...............oh for the good old days|biggrin|

Oh the memories Sandie getting dressed in bed and being told on Christmas day not to get up until Dad had made got the fire going!
I think we need to start a new thread before this one gets hijacked!
