Can anyone assist me in trying to locate a home, convent or workhouse in Dublin or surrounding districts from unmarried girls?
I have a relation who was having a baby "out of wedlock" around 1910, she was from Maynooth in the Cellbridge district but there is no registration there.
Thank you

Hi there - welcome to Brit-Gen

I have done a bit of googling and keep finding reference to St Patrick's Home, Navan Road, Dublin, which was a home for unmarried mums at least as far back as 1907.

However, I have not been able thus far to find out anything more about it.

Perhaps the Dublin Records Office would be able to help?

Hi Steph and Kath. Your relative wasn't a victim of the dreaded Magdalene system was she? See this link (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Magdalene_Asylum)

I agree with Jan, I think that St. Patricks is probably the best option, most of the children were adopted to the US.

If you would like to PM me I will check out the birth record, it would come within the Dublin registration district.
