Three associated members or my extended family had been trying to knock down a brick wall that had existed for years and it was not until my mother in law died in her 90s that her Death Certificate revealed her 'birth' name to be Isaacs and not the name that she and her family had been known by -'Ingram'.
Her Birth Certificate and Marriage Certificate both showed her name as Ingram too, so there was no clue to this change of name which must have taken place in the early 1900s.
We travelled quickly from this point and made the following discoveries......one of her ancestors was the second Rabbi of the Sydney Synagogue in Australia; his brother travelled from London to New York and became the first Rabbi to hold services in English instead of Hebrew and a thiird brother became a Rabbi in Liverpool.
This led to a new line of reading covering the History of the 1840s in Sydney NSW and an extension of our knowledge not just dates and names.
