Although I am not reseaching Wheatleys myself, I see that there were 61 in Dale Abbey in the 1841 census, the oldest being 75. Surprised they didn't rename the place!

There are also a few marriages in Phillimores from the mid 1700's onwards in Dale Abbey & Stanton by Dale. Let me know if you would like them.
Janet.

Yes please, I'd like the marriages they may help me to progress.
In the 1841 Census can you see Matthew (born 1798) and his wife Hannah (born abt 1791) with their daughter Mary Ann (born 1828)?

Hi christine
Martha Wheatley who is listed on the 1841 census as working in lace, married Samuel Wall from Thulston in 1842, in 1841 he was working in Dale lodging with a Farmer. I want to track her parents as in 1841 she is listed under another household and there are 3 wheatley families with parent s of an age to be hers. At this time Dale chiefly comprised Bacons, Bloors, Wheatleys and Hollingsworths and representatives of these families still live here, by coincidence I also now live in this small village so tracking Martha is something I am keen on - you never know she may have lived in our cottage!

Hi Diane,
I've been to Dale Abbey once and would love to go back. My GG Grandfather Thomas Eveley is buried on the right when you go through the gate into the churchyard with his daughter Mary Ann. He married Mary Ann Wheatley b. 1826, daughter of Matthew Wheatley and Hannah Flixon. Depsite the number of Wheatleys in DA I've got no further back than Matthew's parents, Thomas and Mary Hasseldine.
What do the people in Dale Abbey work at now, apart from Agriculture and Tourism? I'd be interested to know, I thought it was lovely even though the rain was pouring down, felt the ancestral vibes.

Hi
I've been back and looked at your family graves. Glad you liked the village we've been here 12 years and love it, its such a great and safe environment for our daughters where everyone knows everyone. we live in the old part and we have regular get togethers and all look out for each other Unfortunately no one really works nearby any more, a couple of the old established familys still farm a bit or are in manual roles but like most villages its now very expensive to buy here and most of us are professionals ranging from Doctors, policemen, teachers, IT, finance etc I myself commute everyday to Huddersfield! If you visit again about the best time to come is early May when the bluebells are out, the woods are a sea of blue. We used to have a well dressing but no longer have enough non working and energitic people to organise this and the fete that went with it, however we still gather round the tree in early December to sing carols to the local brass band accompaniment as the tree lights are switched on!
I've found or martha wheatleys marriage certificate but for father it lists her step father John Bloor and not her real father so I've got no further in taking this back either
regards
diane

Hello George,
I don't know how this family connects into mine but would think that all the Wheatleys in Dale Abbey were connected. I see that there is a William & Catherine in the 1841 Census below but without your George H born in 1833.
