i am trying to find an answer to a mystery for my aunt her grandfather mr william bagshaw was killed in 1910 march qtr aged 35 he was involved in a accident with a horse and cart i cannot find his death on the sites but i was wondering can anyone tell me how i can access the newspapers for that year to see if i can find it in them the family seem to be from derbyshire in the bakewell area she has been researching her family tree by visiting churches etc but she would like to know how he got killed

Hi,

Derbyshire archives would have the newspapers, which I don't think are available on line anywhere. By ordering the death certificate you would find out the cause of death.

my aunt says it has accidental death but there is a family discussion on saying he was drunk but she has also been told that it was the cart bolted and he tried to save it so she was hoping it may be in the local paper for that time

I was lucky and someone going to the archives looked up the newspaper report of my G Grandfather's death. There was lots of interesting info in it.

Hi Ann, the Derbyshire Times online archives only go back to 1995......
I think Matlock record office has the newspaper archives, also Chesterfield library have some but I'm not sure what.
Have you asked on the DERBYGEN mailing list? They're a very helpful and knowledgeable bunch. Good luck

Hello -- Chesterfield Library have film of Derbyshire Times back to 1878 that I know of - I have looked at it - but I do not know if they have every year. The Derby Evening Telegraph do an occasional series 'On This Day', recalling past events - both may be worth a try.
