Can I get rid of the grinning, blinking, jumping and fiddling little objects jumping about on the right of some screens, including this one? They are a hindrance, not a help.
Daggers
User CP, Under Settings and Options select Edit Options. Then, towards the bottom, Thread Display Options. Untick the Show Images box. Then go to the bottom and click Save Changes.

Not quite sure what you mean about seeing them on this site as I don't see any annoying "grinning, blinking, jumping and fiddling little objects jumping " things on here?
Other website might have adverts (including pop ups and smileys etc) as that can be part of the terms and conditions etc of the provider. You can stop pop ups and I think there is a way that you can set rules on your browser so you can't see pictures and so on but I don't know how you do it.
Hopefully someone will come along soon to help you. :)
PS Ah, I see help has already arrived!

I found it !!..
At the bottom of the page that Mark points out.
Select "Basic Editor"
:-( Now I can't see my smilies, or images..
I think Daggers is referring to the smileys and other little images which are found in many posts.

Basic Editor allows you to post simply, but if you draw a smiley thing (colon and right bracket for example), then that would appear in your post as a smiley.
The basic editor will remove the smiley selection which may well be what Daggers is referring to - that would appear on the right of the box you type into when posting a message.
Well thought of Peter!

I think daggers means when you click the Reply to Thread button and start to type, the smilies box is on your right with the jump happy happily jumping.
FAQ
If you want to disable smilies in a post that you make, you can select the 'Disable Smilies' option when posting. This is particularly useful if you are posting program code and you do not want : ) converted to a smilie face!
If you wind down to the bottom of the typing screen there is a box headed Posting Rules
BB code is On
Smilies are On
[IMG] code is On
HTML code is Off
Mine are shown ON but maybe Mark's advice will turn them off.

Oh don't worry, if Peter wants to dance then I'll play the music. http://www.smileys4me.com/getsmiley.php?show=2786
So the answer to the original question seems to be, YES you can get rid of them if you prefer not to see them, but if you like them,
you can play silly whatsits to your hearts content.
It is a matter of choice.

Thank you for the method which I shall follow in the morning, leaving the little xxxs to dance themselves to oblivion overnight.
Sorry to others who have become confused!
[See, Mr B, its not so hard to say sorry.]

Hi Marie.
The Dancing Gif, and Mutley's Musical Gif, are downloads. They are not part of the BGF reportoire.
Find them via Google, or whatever, save them to your computer, and then upload them to e.g Photobucket, as you would any image.
Then paste the img code into your message.
If you haven't got the standard BGF darlings to the right of your Posting Window, it is likely because "Basic Editor" is selected in the Control Panel section.
There is also the Smilies On/Off selection too.
I don't mind them, they only appear when I am writing on the Reply To or New Thread.

Thanks Peter,
Yes you are right. Mine has just basic something on the user thing. Never mind. Some of us are just not able to undestand these things and must accept our limitations. M

Marie, if you go to your User CP (on the left, up top somewhere)
and see if,
Thread Display Options has
Show Images ticked
Miscellaneous Options has showing
Enhanced Interface - Full WYSIWYG Editing
I've tried to do it for you but I do not think my powers enable me to fiddle with your choices. Let us know if you see anything different.
We can work it out for you one way or another.
Most my smilies are from Photobucket. I click the image icon http://www.british-genealogy.com/forums/images/editor/insertimage.gif that is above the box you write into to post
and then enter into the field the url that photobucket gives me.
http:// something or other then click OK

I will try one day when my head is clear(or when grandson comes and he will show me how... or do it for me.) Photobucket and I are incompatible! M
