I'm trying to find a link between individuals in the Black family and hope that someone may be able to help me find them on the 1841 census for Preston Quarter, Whitehaven.

Elizabeth Black, daughter of Walter BLACK and Hannah ARMSTRONG, was born in the Newhouses, Preston Quarter on 28 December 1840. Walter's occupation is given as Collier.

According to the marriage certificate of William James BLACK (my 2xG G/F) and Dinah COUPLAND (15 July 1849 at Mt Pleasant), William was the son of Walter Black, Miner. At the time of his marriage, William was living in Newhouses. The 1851 census shows William was born in Scotland c1825. Witnesses to the marriage were Robert BLACK and Ann HIND.

Robert BLACK and Ann HIND were married in Mt Pleasant on 26 Aug 1849. Robert's father was Walter BLACK, Miner. Robert was 21 at the time of his marriage and was living in Newhouses. Witnesses to the marriage were William James BLACK and Joseph BANKS.

There was a third marriage at Mt Pleasant on 15 November 1851 between James BLACK and Mary Ann BORROWDALE. James was 25 at the time and was living in Ginns. His father's name: Walter Black, Miner. Witnesses to the marriage do not help - Simon CONOLLEY and DINAH CONOLLEY (unless Dinah was a sister as the name Dinah appears regularly in the family)

William James, Robert and James were all miners.

There seems to be a definite link between William James and Robert, now I would like to tie in James and the parents Walter and Hannah and their daughter Elizabeth. The most likely place I can think of to find this link is the 1841 census and I'm hoping someone may be able to help me.

In the 1851 census transcripts I found Walter BLACK, 46, Coal Miner born Ireland and his wife Hannah, 52, born Ireland, living in Back Row, Newhouses with their daughter Elizabeth, 10 born Preston Quarter.

Would appreciate any help - would also like to know whether any of the family were around for the 1861 census
