A directory would probably be the best place to start. There is a website with some online, though I don't know if they include the 20th century

Directories can be purchased from several companies, the premier company of course being: Archive CD Books (http://www.parishchest.com/shop/index.php?cmd=listdepts&cat=D1683)

Directories can also be found at the FRC in London and at many Local Studies Libraries and County Record Offices throughout the country.
