details of his crime etc?

H M Prison Kingston portsmouth he shows on census in 1901

he was 40 at the time born 1861 and married margaret matthews

aparantly the prison started in 1877 and was for lifers, now maybe he was a lifer aybe he wasnt i dont know, i do know he didnt have a child until 1916 o may account for that. all guework though


any hints?

fantastic thankyou kerry ive printed them off, my great grandparents were lovely characters lol, i wonder how long they got sentaced for for the gbh

The trial was reported in the Hampshire Telegraph in July-August 1900. It was adjourned for sentencing, but there is no report of the sentence in that newspaper. Another local paper might have further coverage, perhaps at your local studies library (http://www.southampton.gov.uk/libraries/family-history/localstudies.asp#0)?

The Portsmouth prison registers should also give that information, but I don't see any at the National Archives for the right date. Maybe someone else knows where they are?
