Hi,
For everyone who has pondered about whether they have the correct birth registration because another child in the family has already been given that name, here is evidence that children were given the same names even when the older siblings were still alive. This is the 3 daughters of Samuel & Sarah Boaz as they appear on the 1901 census.
Mary Jane Boaz 8,
Sarah Jane Boaz 6
Mary Boaz 2.

Why didn't they call the last one Mary Sarah Boaz? then they'd have a complete set!:D

Did you check the 1911 census to see if they had added Sarah and Jane ?|laugh1|

I did Sue, and the 3 daughters are called Mary Jane, Sarah & Mary. They had added two more but used a bit more imagination and called them Nellie & Deborah.
Guess what? The mother had become Jane but was definitely the same woman that was named Sarah in 1901.

Makes it easy when hollering out a name in the house! I'm really surprised Nellie and Deborah weren't just Sarah and Jane|laugh1|. one of the relatives must have said something.

Polly is often used for Margaret but I had an Aunt Polly, although I'm not certain that she was christened that or not.

Mary was commonly 'shortened' to Molly, and then Molly became Polly. My husband's Great Aunt Polly was really Mary.
