In 1851, James (the father) seems to be in:

HO107/2159 f10 p7
Chapel House, Macclesfield Forsest
James CORBISHLEY, hd, widr, 73, farmer 28 acres & Publican, bn Wincle
Joseph, son, mar, 24, farmer's son, bn Macclesfield Forest
Sarah, son's wf, mar, 23, housekeeper, bn Wilsboarclough
Elijah, son, unn, 17, farmer's son, bn Sutton
Emila, son's daur, 1, bn Macclesfield Forest
Sarah A, son's daur, 5mo, bn Macclesfield Forest
Two other men staying at the property.

I am not convinced it is him, but this entry has a James born Wincle (matching the James senior in my previous message) and the age is roughly correct. I mention it in case there is a connection:

RG9/2521 f10 p13
Ashbourne, Derbyshire
James CORBISHLEY, hd, mar, 42, Supt of Police, bn Wincle, Cheshire
Mary A, wf, mar, 45, bn Stafford
several children with them

As the marriage entry you have records Mary Ann as a minor in 1842, this would have to be James' second marriage if it is your chap - but as mentioned, I'm not convinced.

Do you know if the couple whose marriage you have found, had any children? - If so, who, when and where?

Here is James in the 1851 census of Sutton, Cheshire:

HO107/2161, folio 225, page 30
High Street

James CORBISHLEY Head Mar 35 Day Labourer Macclesfield Forest Cheshire
Mary Ann do Wife Mar 29 Dress Maker Sutton Cheshire
Hannah do Daur Un 14 Silk Winder do do
Mary Ann do Daur U 4 Scholar do do
William do Son U 1 do do

The family remain in Sutton in the 1861-1881 census records.

Here is James snr & his wife Ann in the 1841 census of Sutton:
HO107/107/10, folio 5, page 3

James CORBITCHLEY 60 Farmer
Ann do 50
James do 20 Dyer
John do 15
Joseph do 15
George do 12
Charles do 10
Elijah do 7
Hannah do 4

All born in the county. It looks as if James jnr's 1st wife had already died by this time as she is not in the 1841 census record. Given the fact that James jnr's first child was baptised Hannah, there is the death registration of a Hannah CORBISHLEY in the March qtr 1840 at Macclesfield reg district which could be relevant.

A more convincing entry for your James is in 1871:

RG10/3677 f98 p10
Cross Street, Sutton, Macclesfield
James CORBISHLEY, hd, mar, 54, grocer, bn Macclesfield Forest
Mary A, wf, mar, 51, bn Sutton
Mary A, dau, 23, Bonnet maler, bn Macclesfield
Sarah M, dau, 14, Silk Piecer, bn Macclesfield

and if that is correct, in 1861 I think they are shown at RG9/2585 f5 p4, again in Cross Street, Sutton
James 44, draper with Mary Ann 42, Hannah 24, Mary Ann 14, Sarah Maria 4

Thank you geoffers for your help. The james I'm looking for is definitely not the Cross St. Sutton one-I have their cert also. Nor is he the James in Ashbourne-age of mary A doen't fit. I think he must be the son of James and Ann although I cannot trace him after 1841 nor his first marriage or after his second one nor her family on 1841. regards. Margaret

Thank you janbooth but its the wrong james and mary Ann-I have their marriage cert also. The James aged 60 is however I think my James's faher although I cannot trace James junior after 1841 apart from 2nd marriage. The hannah you mentioned in 1840 deaths was only 3 weeks old and the daughter of Hugh and Ann Corbishley according to grave records. But many thanks for your imput. Regards. Margaret

Hello Margaret,
Not the census, but there are Cheshire records here
http://pilot.familysearch.org/recordsearch/start.html#p=allCollections;r=1
I notice that there is a marriage of a John Brough and also a possible bapt of a Mary Ann d/o John that may fit, you can save the pages to your pc too.

Hi samgibbons56. Thanks for that- i did not know about that pilot. Could not find this particular marriage on it but found Mary Anns christening. Still could not find deaths of her and James nor anything on registers of Electors. A brick wall I presume but thanks for your input.
