Please, if anyone has access to Notts. FHS marriage Indexes, would you look for a marriage for me - Richard Fenton to Elizabeth circa 1690 - in the Sturton le Steeple area of North Notts. This northern part of the county was not covered by Phillimore and I cannot find any evidence of a Licence.

Gerald - thank you for that, negative information is just as valuable as positive. May I impose even further on your kindness to ask if there are ANY Fenton marriages in that area of North Notts. before 1700 ? I am also missing a Wlliam Fenton to Esther mid 16oo's. I have seen the Sturton registers and they are in a sorry state so it is not surprising if some events are not transcribed. I did have all the index books at one time, and like a fool gave them away.

Hi Eileen,

Pre 1700 at Sturton le Steeple there is only:

John Fenton/Hellen Carrier 3 Nov 1651

No marriage of a William Fenton to an Esther at any time.

I have version 2.1 of the marriage data base.

Procat - thank you, that is quite new to me but will go in the database for future reference. I really must see what indices Notts. FHS has available now and buy some newer ones - I am still a member, and at least two thirds of my lines originate in that county.

Thank you Jan, that is certainly something I shall investigate. I bought the Marriage Licence CD's from Rod, and frequently looked at Archive CD Books. It is obviously a mistake on my part not to pay more attention to Parish Chest. Plastic at the ready I think !!!
