I have just discovered that an ancestor named Gertrude Jones was buried in Thornbury, Cheshire but unfortunately do not know the exact date, in fact, the time period could be anytime between 1945 to1970. Does anyone know if it is possible to purchase a CD of the burial register for Thornbury so that I may search for the burial of Gertrude Jones please?

Thank you.
Brock.

It is unlikely that there is a cd available with a transcript for such a late date. Your best bet is to contact the reference section of the local library for Thornbury & to ask them. They should know if any local group has made a transcript of the burial register. You never know, you might be lucky & find that a local family history group has transcribed & indexed the memorials on the gravestone.

Hi Brock,

Are you sure about Thornbury being in Cheshire? I've just tried Google Maps and the only Thornbury showing is in Lancs or Glos. It's not shown as a parish in Cheshire on Genuki either. It might be an area of a Cheshire town of course in which case have a look at this http://www.cheshirebmd.org.uk/cgi/deathind.cgi there's a number of Gertudes listed one of them might be yours:)

Hi there,
I'm afraid that I am as puzzled about this as you are. My elderly aunt who is 90 years old says that she definitely stayed in a cottage with Gertrude in Thonbury in Cheshire and she remembers attending the funeral in Thornbury when Gertrude died -- unfortunately though, she cannot remember when this occured.

What about Thornton, rather than Thornbury? Does your aunt remember anywhere else that was nearby?

Hi Wirral,
Sadly, at 90 years of age my Aunt's memory isn't all it used to be although she is most insistent that Gertrude lived and was buried in Thornbury!
