I have not been able to get further back than my gg grandfather Hugh HEWETT who married Sally KNIGHT 12 AUG 1815 in Saint Austell. I would seem that he was born in St Breock maybe somewhere between 1782-92. It appears that at least some of his children were also born in St Breock (others were apparently born in Luxulian).
Is there anyone who could help in the search of his parentage? Is Hewett a common name around Cornwall? Does anyone know about the HEWETT surname: what it means, where it comes from?
thanx!

Hugh Hewett was born in St Breock in 1784 and died there in 1756. His parents were Hugh Hewett and Jone West married 9 Dec 1778 in St Breock. They had 5 children that I know of. Jone West was the daughter of Robert West and Elisabeth Unknown.

Thank you Scottie!
I had seen those parents in the IGI kept a note of them as potential parents but had no way of knowing they were the correct ones.
I think I have the names of most if not all sibblings of Joseph Knight Hewett but not of his father.
I have noted a few HEWETTs in St Austell censuses and thought they may be related to my ggg grandfather Hugh (jr).
Do you have the names of the other Children of Hugh (sr) and Jone/Joan?
In 1841 there was a James Hewett (& family) in Molinnes Moor ; Carn Rosemary village William Hewett and family.... in 1861 there seems to be a next generation...
Were James and William Hugh's brothers?
Much thanks,
amehn

Dear Ahmen,
Bo-peep has answered your question from her super disc of St Breock baptisms which can be obtained from the Parish Chest very reasonably. Thank you very much for pointing me to their whereabouts in the later censuses |hug| I did not have these details. When I complete the additions to the database, would you like a look at how I think the family stacks up? If so please email me direct

Hi Scottie
Would this family of Hewitts have any connection with the Rebekah HEWITT who married Rendle LIGHTFOOT in St Breock on 29 Jan 1750? This is a branch of my family I have not researched yet.
regards
Graham

Hi Graham,
Possibly. She was born in Lanivet though, to William Hewitt and Tilney Menhenit married 21 Jul 1728 in Lanivet. Their last child, Tilney, was born in Withiel and I am pretty sure they are all interconnected somehow but as yet I have still to get them "joined up" in the database. The different spellings of Hewett do not help |banghead|

Hi Scottie
Many thanks for the info. Rebekah HEWITT was born in Lanlivet which I know as one of those places I drive past on the A30. I'll probably be making another detour. Another interesting area for me to research.
I made my first visit to St Breock church last year and what a wonderfully atmospheric place it is (and difficult to find!). The area NW of Bodmin seems to be where my family name (LIGHTFOOT) sprang from in Cornwall. The earliest Cornish Lightfoot I have found is in Blisland 1572.
Regards
Graham

I'm interested to know if this is connected to an Ann Hewett who is my great x 5 grandmother. She married Charles Pye, Rector of St. Marys, Truro. Died 7 May 1772; age unknown. Would appreciate it if anyone knows of a connection.
Thank you.
