May Ellis

|help| I have in my possession a photo of a little girl aged about 3yrs, that belonged to my Grandmother Nellie Brownhill, born 1910 in Glossop, Derbyshire, England. On the back is written 'from May Ellis a little Yankee Girl to Nellie Brownhill a little English Girl' - from this I assume that May Ellis was probably about the same age as my Grandmother.

The photo was taken at Woodward Studio, A & H Boudreau Prop., 127, SO. Main St.,Fall River, Mass.

That is all the information I have. I am not aware of the surname Ellis in my family tree and I don't remember any mention of family emigrating to the USA.

I would love to know more about this little girl. Does anyone have any idea how I might find her?

Well I guess on a scale of 1 to 10, this an 11...:)

A search for the Studio and the years it was in operation may narrow it down.

I have been quite fortunate with contacting Museums and Libraries within towns where various studios were. I always write back and say thankyou and offer them a copy. Some have accepted as it adds to their archives.

Census searches and comparing names in the same street is another option.

What is with photo's, is their some part of the human psychi that prevents folk from writing on photos.

I remember once asking an elderly Aunt that question. Her reply was eye-opening.... "Why should I,...... I know who it is" |banghead|

Thanks Wirral....lots more questions now! Certainly looks at if that could be her but I don't know of any family from Scotland. I'll just have to start digging and see what I come up with....thanks again :)

Since Isley's mum was born in England that looks to be the first connection to chase down. The 1930 US census reveals the family has now moved to New York state and are living in Richmond. Note wife Lina is now born in Wales.

May Gifford Ellis, dau, age 17, b. Massachusetts

I wonder if the middle name of Gifford is a pointer?
