Just a bit of a question or two.... or three..... but we need your opinions, please.

Next year, WDYTYA will be over three days in February again.

What we would like to know is......

Is it worth us booking (if we can) a couple of tables for Brit-Gen so that members can pop over and meet us, have a chat and a bit of a party.

It is just Parish Chest that has the tables this year, and I hi-jack a laptop to promote Brit-Gen :o

So....

Would you come to Olympia? Is it worth spending the dosh on the tables? How far would you travel to meet us?

All opinions gratefully received.

I like the idea, but then I only had to travel up from Taunton.
It would be nice to be able to chat to you all from Brit Gen and not feel that I was holding up people who have queries; who may feel that they were being ignored if people were 'idly chatting'.
Depends upon the cost v possible usage I imagine.

I like the idea, but to say yes I would be there, is a tall order. I don't even know what I am doing tomorrow apart from being on here.

I realise that there would be such factors as travel costs, whether or not you would like to just visit for one day or more, or whether or not members would need time off from work.

However, theoretically would it be a go-er? :)

That's a heck of a lot of money for no financial return. OK it would be good as a way of getting people into the show but who is going to pay? Parish Chest spends enough already on keeping the forum online so I don't think it's a justifiable expense. How many people who are members came to see you ? If it is more than 2% of the membership then it might be something to think about.
and how many people joined because they found you there? if that is more than 1% then that would be useful and make me think favourably but.....

Just my four pennorth

Well having just returned from Olympia, I would love to have met more forum members, I do think however that the cost of a designated stand would be prohibitive as Ladkyis says Parish Chest already provides us with a fantastic FREE forum - should we expect them to fund us a meeting point also?

Dipping my toe in the water here, could we somehow 'chip in' to help with the costs?

12 months to plan, I'm sure someone will come up with a solution.

Meeting you and others is a nice bonus but not the primary reason people go to the show. Most people have got other things to see, other people to meet, workshops to attend etc etc. People will pause at the stand to say hello but it's unrealistic to imagine that many people are going spend a lot of time hanging around a stand just in case they might meet someone else.

Perhaps you could achieve your aim by dishing out large B-G badges on which people could write their user names. Then as people wander round the show they will spot other B-G users and introduce each other. Additionally, you gain extra free mobile advertising spots ;).

After reading Astoria and Peter's comments, what about a B-G cafe? It would have to be outside though so Jan and myself can have our smokes.

There was lots of space available up in the gallery, though lord knows what they would charge.
