I have just received a marriage certifcate for the registrartion district of Poole, Dorset. The residence listed is Newtown. Upon checking on where Newtown is I get serveral places. My question to anyone out there is - would hampshire be the most likely choice for someone who's lineage is birth, death and marriage in Poole, Dorset?
Hampshire
Cumberland
Derbyshire
Kent
Montgomeryshire

I live in Poole, Dorset and can help with this question. My uncle lives in Hudson Close, Newtown, Poole but when we send letters to him the Newtown part is omitted and replaced by Parkstone! In other words both Parkstone and Newtown are areas of Poole. I guess that as Poole has grown in size the Newtown area has become part of Parkstone - only the locals still refer to it as Newtown. I hope that this helps.

Hi Meerten,
I was born in Parkstone and as Copper says, it borders parkstone.
The local church is St Clements but I don't think it is that old.
The family that I have found from Newtown shows as Kinson for a registration district rather than Poole.
This little snippet from the church history says.....
The centenary of St Clement and St Barnabas was celebrated in 1989. To commemorate this occasion, a booklet was published which detailed the history of the parish. Most of the following is taken from that.
The church was consecrated in 1889 although the district of Newtown did not become a separate parish until 2nd February 1904, when it was separated from the parish of St Andrew, Kinson, by an order of the council dated 2nd February, 1904.
Regards
Russell
