Can anyone help with my great grandmothers family please? Her maiden name was Louisa Starkey and she was born in Horninglow work house (Burton on trent) in 1890. There is no father recorded on her birth certificate (there is just a line through that column) but her mother is shown as Annie Starkey from Branstone.
She married Frederick Morrell in 1907 and on the marriage certificate her father is shown as James Starkey (deceased) a labourer.
I can't find any trace of her father James and am beginning to think she was illegitimate and James was just made up for the marriage certificate.
I also cannot find Annie (her mother) before she went into the workhouse in 1890. What I'd like to find is some evidence that James and Annie were married and where they came from.
Thanks
Chris

The IGI has the christening of Louisa Starkey on 1st November 1890 at Holy Trinity, Burton Upon Trent. Only the mother’s name Annie Starkey is shown.

Legend in my other half’s family (Wards from West Bromwich) says that a Starkey married a Ward - very vague, no idea of first names or when! I have found a Thomas Ward Starkey, so maybe there is some truth in it, but I haven't connected him yet.

Any connections with your lot?

Hi Chris,

The Lichfield Records Office (http://www.staffordshire.gov.uk/leisure/archives/LichfieldRecordOffice/) has the admissions and discharges from 1880 to 1930. Maybe there would be a clue to her background there.

Hello,

thank you both for your replies. I will contact Lichfield and see if there is an online version of the records.

I don't think there is any connection with the other Starkey family mentioned, although until I know where mine came from I can't be absolutely sure.
