My great great grandfather Evan Thomas was born in Eglwysilan, Glamorgan in 1849. I've checked the I.G.I. and they give his mother and father as Hannah and William Thomas.
Please would some kind person have a peek in the 1851 or 1861 census to see if this family is there . I'd like to know more especially his dad's occupation but any help is welcome , thanks.

Is there a reason this is in the Monmouthshire forum or would you like me to move it to Glamorgan?

The Glamorgan FHS transcript of the register confirms that William was a Blacksmith and that they lived at Upper Boat, which is an area just north of the present-day Treforest Trading Estate. You might try any mid-Victorian maps you can find to see whether you can spot any forges in that village.

It'd be interesting to put "meat on the bones"
