Could we have some clarity on two points please?

Last night I posted a link to www. picture the past.org.uk which is a website funded by Notts & Derbys local authorities with assistance from the Heritiage Lottery Fund and has 71,000 images FREE to view. They can be zoomed in for free as well.
The site also sells prints of these photos though I suspect sales would be poor considering whats available for free (presumably this helps fund the website itself).

The link I posted last night on a thread has been removed - fair enough if you classify that as a `Commercial site` BUT what has annoyed me the most:

Is the fact that the moderator who removed the link has done so without having the courtesy to post an edit note and reasoning. Could I point out it would only take some stray person to `interfere` with a post possibly to a) alter its complete context which b) may upset other parties unnecessarily.

Could we please have some CLARITY on the website as regards what is going on. I hope other people don`t think I`m being awkward - just concerned that this site should maintain its otherwise excellent high standards

Mitch

And PS we all make mistakes! I posted a census reference the other day which included the GSU (I have no idea what this is!) but apparently its copyright - now HOW am I supposed to know that!!

Hello Mitch,

Have a read of this post (http://www.british-genealogy.com/forums/showpost.php?p=222214&postcount=5) regarding GSU numbers.

Thanks,

Thanks for that link Bo-Peep. I had NEVER seen that before - being completely illiterate - I had read the `sticky` in the threads on that page but had NEVER noticed the announcement above it - I MUST go and buy those glasses....

And thank you for that Jan. So as I copied the reference innocently off of everyones favourite website presumably they sourced thir information from the LDS! Well I live and learn - I am new I have only been doing genealogy for seven years!!

Now who was that moderator who annoymously edited my thread |scold|? (Wicked sense of humour here!)

Well, describing the Mods as "stray persons" could be defined as living dangerously!

OK, Now I must admit to being a little puzzled ?

Do links to the UK National Archives, fall into the not allowed catergory ?

They do provide a "pay to view service" and a "free" service.

I just paid them so I could view a Will.

Bo Peep I commend your honesty and admire your bravery in declaring you deed.

My local authority "needs every penny it can get at the moment" as well - nothing is ever an open and shut case is it....
