I have someone in my tree ALBERT DEXTER FRETTSOME (b.1883) who in the 1901 census had his address as HM Prison Wandsworth. I was wondering how I could find out what he was in jail for ? He later emigrated to Canada, married there in 1919 and died in 1937. I was intrigued to see if his emigration had anything to do with the prison sentence and what it was for.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

You might find a newspaper report of the case, but it might be easier to go via the prison records. Records for Wandsworth Prison for this period are held at the London Metropolitan Archives (ACC/3444). If you can't get there yourself, they offer a research service.

Hi,

If you would like to contact me, we have a full Frettsome tree from 1600s to 2005 which includes Albert Dexter Frettsome.

While we don't know why he was in prison we would love to make contact.

My wife's maiden name was Frettsome.
