An approximate date might help someone to assist, or to point you in the right direction. Whose will are you trying to locate?

This was a period when probate was granted by Church courts and so the will may be in a number of different locations.
Prerogative Court of Canterbury (PCC) wills are available from The National Archives (TNA) - this is the result of a search of COOPER wills connected with Suffolk 1831-1857 (http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/documentsonline/search-results.asp?searchType=browserefine&mediaarray=*&first_date=18310101&last_date=18571231&CatID=6&pageCount=2&query=last%5Fname%3Dcooper%7Cplace%3Dsuffolk&queryType=1&pageNumber=1&sortSpec=first%5Fdate+desc)
The Norfolk Record Office has its wills catalogued on NROCAT; this includes wills for Suffolk, which was in the same diocese. These are the results of searching for Jonathan COOPER Suffolk (http://nrocat.norfolk.gov.uk/Dserve/dserve.exe?dsqServer=128.60.0.31&dsqIni=Dserve.ini&dsqApp=Archive&dsqDb=Catalog&dsqCmd=overview.tcl&dsqSearch=((((text)='jonathan')AND((text)='cooper' )AND((text)='suffolk'))AND(Category='probate'))) on NROCAT
Have you tried Suffolk Record Office, conveniently located in Ipswich? Give them a call and see what they have. Contact details can be found here - SRO Ipswich (http://www.suffolk.gov.uk/LeisureAndCulture/LocalHistoryAndHeritage/SuffolkRecordOffice/ContactUsLocations/SuffolkRecordOfficeIpswichBranch.htm)

For anyone answering this thread, please be aware that Shell31 has another thread which is closely related. It can be found here (http://www.british-genealogy.com/forums/showthread.php?p=249769&posted=1#post249769).
I will leave both thread open at the moment, but if any confusion is caused will close one thread so that all answers can be collated and avoid duplication of effort.

Ah, right - I thought in referring to a will and giving a date, you would be meaning the date of death.
If your chap died in 1910 you will need to go to a record office - for example, try the Suffolk Record Office at Ipswich.
You will need to use something called the 'Probate Calendar' - this is an index produced each year (hence calendar) to all wills. It is arranged alphabetically by surname.
You may need to look at 1910 and also for some years after in tracing a will as probate sometimes took a while.
Each entry in the Probate Calendar contains quite a lot of information.
If you find an entry for you chap, note down all the information in the entry and apply for a copy of the will from the probate registry.
You cannot search the Probate Calendar on the internet.

You may search the Probate Calendar at a records office - telephone the office before going to check:
1. That they have the probate calendar and that it covers the year(s) in which you are interested.
2. Whether you need to reserve a microfilm reader to view the probate calendar.
A records office is not the same as the probate registry so you cannot order a copy of a will at a records office.
This web-site tells you about the Probate Service (http://www.hmcourts-service.gov.uk/infoabout/civil/probate/index.htm), the different sub-registeries and how to apply for copies of wills.

You need to go to record office in your area and look up in the probate calendar of Wills - It will tell you where the Wills are held if there are any. Also the TNA link given above wil tell you all about looking for and obtaining them.

You cannot look up entries in the probate calendar from this period on a web-site.
You cannot view wills from this period on a web-site
You will need to go to a record office in person to view the probate calendar.
Telephone the record office first to make sure that they have probate calendar for the period in which you are interested.
When you telephone the record office ask them if you need to reserve a microfilm reader.
If you find an entry that is of use, copy down the entry, including the year exactly as it is written.
Record offices usually have helpful staff. If from this thread you are not clear on how to apply for a copy of the will (it is detailed in teh link given above to the probate service), take your copy of the entry to one of the staff and they shoudl be able to explain it to you in person.
