Can anyone find out when and where my G-Grandads brother died?,

Thomas Henry Pengelly,1885,Camberwell,London
Last known address

1391 Butternut Street,Detroit,Michigan,for the 1930 census.

When he was boading with the same family he had been boarding with for the 1920 and 1910 census,

Tabitha Woodruff,widow,1862,London,and her sons.

He joined the Canadian Army to fight in the First World War,was crippled in both legs, spent a long while in hospital in England and then went back to Detroit .

Family rumour is he died in 1934,(before the Social Services death records started! ),but nobody knows for sure.

If anybody can shed any light on what happened to him,I would be very gratefull
Thanks
Paul

Paul,
I very recently had a similar enquiry, a relation was 70 in the 1930 census in Detroit. I learnt that the Burton Historical Collection of the main Detroit Public Library has an index of Detroit only deaths. The web address is http://www.detroit.lib.mi.us/burton/burton_index.htm.
There is a contact email address. I used this as a request for a search and received a prompt reply tonight informing my research interest died 12 November 1933. The reply gave a link to order a death certificate but this looked a tad expensive and I don't know what a US certificate contains. Perhaps someone else can say what a death cerificate is likely to show.
Good luck
Colin
