Agnes MCDADE

I've found someone by this name on the 1871 Scotland census living in Dumfries. Place and estimated year of birth - 1859, Dunscore, Dumfriesshire. No parents listed. I can't find her birth, nor can I find her in 1861 or 1881. Similarly, I can't find a death nor a marriage for her between 1871 and 81.

Any ideas? :confused: She just seems to appear from nowhere.

Are you looking for her birth on Scotlandspeople.gov.uk? Have you tried Mc Dade or Mac Dade? I found 1 hits for Agnes Mc Dade when searching for births 1858-1859 specifying county as Dumfries and district as Dunscore, but can't view it as my 8 credits have expired!

I forgot to say to check the soundex box. I'm not sure what surname it will actually give, as it costs a credit to view the hit, so it may not actually be the correct one.

Checking the ScotlandsPeople site again, the hit you found is Agnes McDeed, 1858. Now the question is whether Agnes McDeed is the same person as Agnes McDade, and more importantly, whether either of them are the person I'm looking for.

Hmm... Can't find Agnes McDeed in 1861 or 1881 either nor any James McDeeds. No McD*s that look likely.

Oo there's an Agnes Campbell born Dunscore in 1858 living in Kirkcudbrightshire in the 1861 census... no parents shown. This might just be progress...

Interesting... Searching all censuses for an Agnes born Dunscore 1 year either side of 1858 reveals just 1 result for Campbell which is in 1861 and 1 result for McD* which is in 1871.
