The above couple were married on 3 August 1804 at St Luke's, Stepney, London.

Her surname is spelled as appears in the IGI.

Any suggestions as to how I can discover where/when she was born will be most appreciated.

First of all, the IGI entry is for Saint Luke Old Street, *Finsbury*.....

Get a copy of the Paris Register entry, this might tell you were she was living at the time (and her age) but it still might not necessarily be where she was born *or* baptised.

Remember that the IGI is an *index*, not a transcript, and does not contain all of the information available in Parish Registers.

Other than that, if she survived until the 1851 census and you can find her in it, then she may have a place of birth recorded there although you often find a really helpful born "London" entry!

You are correct re the place of their 1804 marriage, but here in Australia how can I access the parish register - and it wouldn't contain her place of birth, would it.

You are correct re the place of their 1804 marriage, but here in Australia how can I access the parish register - and it wouldn't contain her place of birth, would it.The Registers are at London Metropolitan Archives. Reference is P76/LUK

They have a research service which costs about 30.00 GBP if I recall correctly.

The register will almost certainly not state her place of birth but it might state that she was "Of this Parish" or "Of XYZ Parish" which may, or may not be a useful pointer in the right direction. It might also indicate if the marriage was by banns or by licence... if you can find either of these they might state "of xyz parish" too.
