I'm looking for a traveller by the name of Nathan Williams. There isn't much known about him. He had an illigitimate child Brittiania Sheldrake(she took on the name of her mother Sybil Sheldrake) in 1916 i have the birth certificate for her, no father listed. He had about 8 children. I have one of the other childrens birth certificate, the father listed as Nathan Williams. Would this mean that he and Sybil married? I can't find any evidence of them marrying. I no he also spent time in the courts about paying the child support. Infomation from my Nan has informed me that he died sometime between 1965-67 and was around 79 when he died. This is all I have to go on at the moment. Any help would be much appreciated, has anyone else had similiar problems? how easy is it to trace gypsy relatives?
Thanks, Shaun Quinn.

Thank you very much. Can u please reveal your secret on how you found that...because i've been using ancestry.com and it never bought it up, hopefully i will now be able to track down the elusive Nathan Williams!

Ancestry.com uploads the information from FreeBMD for the indexed searches. But, Ancestry is always behind FreeBMD.
FreeBMD has only recently indexed this time frame. To find them on Ancestry you would have had to search the "Complete BMD Index ranges & Images 1837-1983" BMD records. These are not indexed (other than by the first & last name on each page) so you need to do a search for the surname for the time frame and then check every page that is returned.
An added complication is that if an entry was missed and handwritten at the bottom of the last column that is the name Ancestry has indexed so the surname you need may not be included on pages returned.
Eg, the first name on the page was Jeans and the last name was Jones - which is the name you want. However, the person doing the entries missed Jenkins and wrote it at the foot of the last column.
When you search for Jones that page will not come up because it has been indexed as Jeans to Jenkins.
