Hi,
I am new to the forum and am researching MOUNSEY and TOWERS in the Lorton area and THOMPSON in Workington. Have had to file the THOMPSON file in the 'too difficult' tray for now. Have reached a problem with one of my MOUNSEY ancestors which perhaps somebody could give me guidance. I have James Mounsey listed as a police constable in the 1891 census, but does not appear in the 1901 census. A trawl through 1837online shows no record of death so am at a loss. He could I suppose have emigrated?
Any help/thoughts would be much appreciated.
Regards to all
Alan

I have seen on the 1901 decoder a James Mounsey living in Cumberland.
The decoder groups people up with the same name that appear on the same page.

James 32, county police contable, Easton Cokemouth
Jane 29, Beaton Workington
John 5, Beaton Workington

There is also a possible marriage on freeBMD

Mounsey James
Sandelands Jane Forrester
Good luck,
Jo :)

Cumberland 1901 is not on Ancestry yet.
Hi Alan
I too have Thompsons from Workington and they are a nightmare. I would be interested to know what you have and maybe we can compare notes.

Joan,
I have reached back pre 1837 and living so far away I find it hard to confirm what I have found on the IGI. Would love to know next time you are going to the RO maybe I can give you what I have for confirmation?
Thanks for lovely offer!

Hi Jo
Thanks for the info, sorry for not replying sooner but spent a week in the RO at Whitehaven and brought home masses a lot of info that has taken time to assimilate. I think there may be some word errors, I reckon that Beaton Workington should be Seaton Workington but Easton Cokemouth could be Seaton Cockermouth? only a guess that lot.
Thanks again
Alan
I agree Beaton is probably Seaton but Easton Cockermouth could possibly be Embleton.
