I have come across some conflicting information and I need assistance to sort it out. I recently visited The Records Office at Wigston Magna with another member of my family to checkout our family history. I wanted to confirm all the children of Edward Topley and Anne Lacy who were born in Walton On The Wolds LEIC. I found the record of Hannah Topley born Mar. 7, 1789 in Walton On The Wolds and daughter of Edward Topley and Anne Lacy. Hannah was born Mar. 7, 1789 and christened on the 12th and there was clearly no other month noted. It was not unusual to have a child christened at home if it appeared it may die. Here is where I have found a conflict. I have noticed some people have an Ann Topley born Mar. 7, 1789 Walton On The Wolds and christened Apr. 12, 1789 and married to John Preston. Edward and Anne Lacy had 7 children and there was no child born Mar. 7, 1789 named Ann, just Hannah. My question is, if Hannah and Ann are the same person is there any documentation to prove it?

To genealogists, Ann and Hannah are the same name - as, of course, they were to the people of the day.

I agree with Peter. The Hannah in my tree is my 3x great grandmother, and she is sometimes an Ann, sometimes a Hannah. It confused me at first, and I thought I was dealing with two different women and the same husband. I soon realised the names are interchangeable :).

PS: for good measure sometimes Anna is thrown in the mix, or Hanna or Annah ;).

Thank you for your responses. I'm going to look for a parish marriage certificate for John Preston and Ann Topley.
