Hi All,

I'm trying to find out the wifes name of Daniel Dowding b c1820 in Kington Magna. By 1871 she has died so need a lookup from a kind soul for 1851 or 1861 in Kington Magna. He should have at least two children: Louisa b 1845 and John b c1850.

Also could someone tell me if these two census are available to purchase yet.

Many Thanks
Christine

Hi Christine,

looks promising it seems to include the info.you are looking for.
I hope this is of some help to you.

Perhaps the website Topaz mentioned will provide what you want but as a general point of technique, I might venture the opinion that what you really need isn't the census but a birth certificate (eg Louisa Jane Dowding 1845 Jun Wincanton 10 543). This will give you the mother's name and, more importantly, her maiden name.

Sorry Peter,

I just thought it would be worth a look.

Of course everything should be checked with a primary source.

So often you find a possible ancestor only to find others with the same name born around the same time!

You misunderstand me! My hat is off to you for finding that website. I was making a point about the question - not about your answer.

It was a general point about how best to find out a mother's name. Perhaps Christine won't need the advice in this case after you've found that website but perhaps another time...
