yet again Trying to find Wisdom Smith

Im new to this,I am trying to find out about my family my fathers name was Arthur Smith his fathers name was Wisdom Smith and his fathers name Wisdom Smith i dont know any dates apart from my fathers b/d 10/06/1946and date of death 20/08/1999. I have tried to get a b cert 4 my father but cant find one as not sure of his mothers name All i know is that my father use to talk about his father living on the common in worc if any one can help someway i would be most greatfull also they lived on Baker Street in Bath

Do you know if Arthur had a second name? Any idea where he was born - which county? There are 13 Arthurs to choose from, but if you can narrow it down by name or county, it may help.

There is only one marriage for a Wisdom Smith between 1933 and 1946

Wisdom Smith & Ellen Steventon, Kettering RD Vol 3b Page 707

However I can't find an Arthur Smith born with a mother by the name of Steventon, or anything close.

Any idea when Wisdom died, and how old?

Hi Ally, following Michaels lead, found the birth of a "Wisdom" Smith, Mother "SMITH" @ Witney 3a-3075 June 1/4 1946

In Mar 1/4 1944 Arthur W. SMITH married Barbara L. SMITH @ Hendon 3a-1045

Checking I see there is a distance from Witney to Hendon in Middlesex, but England is not all that large hey?

Further Smith / Smith marriages in 1943 in MArtley & Leicestershire.
lots of Smiths out there. ;)

Hi thanks for all the help as far as i know Wisdom never married i have since found out that my grandmothers name was Dafnee Barker but known as Grace she married a johnny Dixon in pontypool as for my father i have been told he was born in Bath but i have tried to get a birth cert but not sure if he went under smith or barker because when he married my mum on the 10/09/1966 in hereford he had to chose which name he was going to use.

I have found my Wisdom Smith born 09/03/1921 died in 1978 in Hereford going to get cert so hopfully i can start looking for more family.

I notice that there are more Wisdom Smiths named on various Romany web sites that there are named in the GRO. It could well be that many travellers births escaped registration, which could make the process difficult. They also appear to vanish at census time, probably because they are "between caravan parking places".
