Hello
Could anyone help please? My research has taken me to Ireland and I haven't a clue how to try to obtain any certificates etc... According to my records, my gt. gt. grandmother was born around 1860 in Mayo. Her father was Edward COONEY. In 1884, I am aware that Jane was living in Ormskirk, Lancs - but I would really love to find out more about her Irish roots. Any help anyone could offer would be greatly appreciated.
Kind Regards
Catherine

Irish Roots.ie is a pay per view site but if you google you will find it.
In the Mayo Family History Centres section
is a Church Baptism for a Jane Cooney 1857 in Co. Mayo with a father Edward.
More than that I am afraid you have to wield the power of a plastic card. :)

Forgot to add,
armed with the baptismal information you should be able to order the birth certificate from

Hi Mutley
Many, many thanks for such a prompt and helpful reply. Just to pick your brains further please - I have a Robert McIver, b. circa 1857 in Belfast. I take it that I may be able to find similiar info in the same way?
I am very grateful.
Kind Regards
Catherine

I'm not sure about Belfast. I think it may come under Antrim.
Anyway, I tried that and there are two baptisms for a Robert McIver. One is 1857 and the other 1860.
At £5.00 a try it is expensive unless you have a father's name to confirm it
BTW I cannot find your John on your other thread. Will keep looking. :)

Hi Mutley
Once again, thank you for your help. If by any chance you do come across any further information, Robert McIver's parents were William McIver and Sarah? I've left the Irish lines until last because up until now, I didn't know how to go about researching these family members.
Thanks
Catherine

I've re-entered the information for Robert and added William as the father. The 1860 one has gone and it has just left the 1857 so it is possible he could be yours.
You seem to need deep pockets when you research your Irish family. :)
P.S. I have moved your post with the additional information about John McIver to his Lancashire thread. You may get some more help from there. And if anyone thinks they can help Catherine (St Helens, Lancs) look here (http://www.british-genealogy.com/forums/showthread.php?t=39602)
