hi all, just been looking up a relation in the census lists on ancestry when his death came up in something called "soldiers killed in the great war"
stating he was killed in action 1915, theatre of war - aldershot!
is this just another mistranscription or perhaps an accident in training?
opinions welcome, pete.

This is a flaw in the information put online by your provider. A great many who died in France/Flanders have been 'transferred' to Aldershot.
This is probably an error in transcription from the original SDGW books or the CD, as they do not carry the error.

Yes, but there is not likely to be much on the certificate. I have sent you a PM.

Yes, but through Overseas Section of GRO, not the section that you're used to dealing with. As Daggers has advised, there's not much point.
It's interesting, isn't it that even when Ancestry don't have anything to transcribe, they still muck it up!

You'll be able to get an accurate place of death from the CWGC site.
If you were reading A*nc*stry, and you want to double check, it MIGHT be worth looking at another provider of Soldiers Who Died such as FindMyPast.

According to CWGC he's buried in Larch Wood Cemetary, 4 km south of Ypres. It was used through the war by troops holding that sector, especially the 46th (North Midland) Division and the 1st Dorstes,. then at the end of the war many men were brought fropm other, small cemetaries in the area. There's a lot of info on where the added men were moved from, plus a photo of the cemetary. You really should look for yourself here http://www.cwgc.org/, but the short answer is Flanders Fields.
Go to the War graves photographic project here http://twgpp.org/ and you can even get a photo of his gravestone for your Aunt. His stone is there, I've checked.

Soldiers Died in the Great War Database:
David WRIGHTSON, 11316 Pte Northumberland Fusiliers
KIA 2 Oct 1915,
Theatre of war - France and Flanders
Although the war diary is not available for download from documentsonline, it is still in TNA's catalogue - 9th Bn Northumberland Fusiliers Jul 1915-Jul 1917 (http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/catalogue/displaycataloguedetails.asp?CATID=-2241970&CATLN=7&Highlight=%2C9%2CNORTHUMBERLAND&accessmethod=0) and you could click on the 'request this' button to ask TNA to copy the war diary for the period covering your chap's death. It is unlikely to mention him by name but the diaries provide am extremely interesting insight into what particular units were doing.
