Following on from the William Gray, Bethania Smith and James Mobbs thread, I sent off for the birth certificate of the Dilorani Smith born in 1859, and it has arrived this morning.
Information from it is:
Dilorani Smith, girl, born 16th Feb 1859, Attercliffe, father Nathaniel Smith, clothes peg maker, mother Eliza Smith formerly Brown, informant was Eliza Smith, mother, of Greenland Attercliffe, registered 30th Apr 1859.
With Eliza being a Brown this would fit with the 1861 census entry in Ludford Parva of a 3 year old Delerana Brown, niece, in the household of William Brown and Unetta Smith.
The IGI has the baptism at Darnell, Sheffield, on 20th Feb 1859 of 'De la Mine' Smith, daughter of Nathaniel and Eliza Smith. Interestingly there is also another baptism to this couple on 24th Nov 1861 at Attercliffe Sheffield of another daughter, Rosetta Smith.
Nathaniel and Eliza are in Ecclesfield, Yorkshire in 1871.
Nathaniel Smith head mar 40 labourer Lincs Barnaby
Eliza wife mar 40 hawker Lincs Barnaby
Frank son 16 machine tenter Lincs Barnaby
Rosetta dau 8 scholar Yorks Attercliffe
Beatrice dau 6 scholar Yorks Attercliffe
James son 3 Yorks Ecclesfield
Next door, may be connected:
Alverdine Smith head mar 20 machine tenter Lincs Featherby
Hannah wife mar 20 paper layer Yorks Ecclesfield
As Dilorani isn't on the 1871 census with Nathaniel and Eliza it doesn't rule her out from being the 14 year old Dilerany Smith who is with Alice Smith on the 1871 census.
Any ideas on where this Nathaniel Smith and Eliza Brown connect in?
Jo.

Answering my own question, lol, Eliza Brown is likely to be Eliza born 1828 at Redmile, Leics, d/o Francis and Rosetta Brown, especially seeing as she goes on to have a daughter named Rosetta.
But who is Nathaniel Smith?

LOVING this work on the Browns. They have been a bit of an enigma for me. I noted the Browns I saw in the Lincs area specifically because I believed they were most likely related somehow to my Mary Brown (b.cir 1831 place unknown) d 1915 Horncastle as Mary Smith, the widow of Thomas Smith b.cir 1825 SKillington Lincs (never found a bapt thus far) d.1897 Horncastle. They lived on Waring Row. A Thomas Smith & Mary Brown were married in 1849 at Wrawby s/o William Smith, and d/o Thomas Brown.
This Thomas Smith was suposed to be s/o William Smith who married Ann Elliott also the parents of Maria Smith who married Christopher Gray. Thomas and Mary Smith were the parents of Deliah Smith who married Christopher & Maria Grays son Samuel Gray.
Hope you can make sense of that!!
As to Nathaniel & Eliza Smith.....I do not know......
BUT there was a Nathaniel Smith b.1792 Long Buckby married a Patience - he would have been brother to Bertha/Bethania/Bethany and Tabitha Smith. ie - a son of Wisdom & Hannah. So it might well prove that Nathaniel was used more than once in the family.

Alverdine Smith.... hmmm knew Id seen something like that before.....
Alberdine s/o Francis & Unity Brown b.cir 1854 Goxhill Lincs.........
Which would make Alberdine nephew to his next door neighbours
through Eliza Smith/Brown bapt 1828 Redmile, d/o Francis & Rosetta. Bingo

Eliza Smith c.1828 Redmile Leic married Nathaniel Smith b.cir 1828 Barnaby(?) Lin.
I've found Nathaniel and Eliza in 1881 and 1891 now, and he's giving a different birthplace.
1881 - Ecclesfield
Nathaniel Smith head mar 55 gen lab Lincs Wilunder
Eliza wife mar 50 Lincs Ully
Beteris dau 17 bolt screwer Yorks Barnsley
James son 13 Yorks Ecclesfield
Lader dau 15 Yorks Sheffield
1891 - Ecclesfield
Nathaniel Smith head mar 60 gen lab Lincs Welmindom
Eliza wife mar 65 Lincs Welmindom
James son unm 23 iron moulder Yorks Ecclesfield
Could 'Welmindom' be a misheard Wymondham, even though it is in Leics?
If this Dilorani is the one that married Rabbi Smith that would make her cousin to Messiah Gray, and in 1901 Messiah's son is at the cavalry barracks in Hulme with Rabbi.
On the same day that Eliza was baptised at Redmile, 4th May 1828 there was another baptism for Mark Smith, son of John and Mather. I think this Mark Smith marries a Naomi Sherriff, daughter of Isaac Sherriff and Rebecca Biddle, and then takes Sherriff as a surname (he gives his birthplace as Redmile Leics in 1871 and 1881). In 1851 he's at Granby, Notts:
James Smith head mar 28 gypsy ? chair bottomer nk
Ambretta wife mar 21 nk
Riley son 1 nk
Emma dau 6 nk (bapt 9/2/1845 Long Bennington Lincs)
Martha dau 2 nk (born 15/3/1848 Kirton in Holland Lincs)
Mark Sherriff head mar 25 gypsy ? nk

Wilunder/Welmindom = wymondham. Almost certainly I should think. It echos that more than the likely possibles for Lincs itself.
Barnaby/Ully probably Barnetby or Ulceby. Will have to check a map to see if they are close to each other.
