I am trying to find out more on my Great Great Grandmother Amelia ELTON who married Timothy SCHOFIELD in 1861. All I have on Amelia is that she was born around 1840 in Elvetham and that her father was Joseph ELTON a labourer.

How about this as a possibility for Joseph -- from the 1881 census, living on Hackwood Road?

Note Sarah's birthplace. Maybe Joseph met and married Sarah in Elvestham and had Amelia before moving to Basingstoke. [I didn't see any other Joseph ELTONs on the census which would fit your description.]

Hi Trish, I will certainly note this as a possible - although if Sarah was born in 1840 it makes her about the same age as Amelia - Perhaps her step mother? It would still place Joseph in the right place. I'll definately investigate, thanks for letting me know :)

RuthOops. Should've paid more attention to Sarah's age! Sorry about that. I just checked the image to be sure and yes, Sarah is definitely listed as 41 and "wife".

There is only one ELTON family connected to Elvetham showing up in the 1871 census so maybe they are related to Amelia -- her brother and sister-in-law perhaps?
