Do you mean how to start looking for your ancestors, something on the website, or something else connected with family tree research ?

Hallo Dave,
One of the Mods will be along soon to show you the links.
I'm not mubch good at it but at the top of this page you will see blue writing such as Finding your Feet on the Brit Gen Forums and another Problems navigating.... so click on either of those and you will find info.(I've never noticed those before!)
On the leftat top you will see B-G Forums sponsered by Parish Chest. Click on this and it'll take you to the front page . Scroll down this and you find various stuff including places in which you have an interest. Click on these and...... M

Well, you have taken the first step by asking the question. :D
Now we need to know what you are looking for.

So, welcome to the forum and ask some more....

Hi Dave,
You will find there is a lot of information on this site which will help you to get started tracking your ancestors. I would start off by having a good look round - especially at the Hints and Tips (http://www.british-genealogy.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=503) section as well as other general boards.

Then perhaps try to familiarise yourself with the Search box at the top of the page - very useful if you are looking for specific surnames for example.

Each county and area has its own section in the forum as you will see when you look around - those are good places to post any enquiries if you know which county your ancestors came from for example.

Don't worry if you post in the wrong place - someone can always move a post if it is not in the right place :) Try to always give what info you can - dates (even rough ones), places etc always help others to assist you. Likewise, if you have already looked in specific places for your ancestors (e.g checked the census or parish records ) and found some details, then add that to your post - it avoids duplication of effort! We do sometimes find people will ask for anything about a specific ancestor and another member will spend time looking up the census details from 1841 to 1901, only to be told that the poster had already done that!

The main thing is to enjoy the forum - we are all pretty friendly and nobody will complain if you post in the wrong place or your spelling isn't perfect...

Remember that everyone here wants to help if they can :)

Cheers,
Mark

Hi Dave,

If you're looking to search the forums you will find the links as follows;

Below the big red banner, at the top of the page, and within your welcome box are some links. One of the links is 'B-G Forums sponsored by Parish Chest Ltd.' if you click the link you will be taken to the many and varied individual forums which include forums by district and by topic.

Hope this helps.
