My Gx2 grandfather James White died on 21.3.1885 at Norbury Park, Surrey as a result of being kicked by a horse. There was an inquest held on 25.3.1885. I would very much appreciate some advice on where I might go for records of the inquest, please.
Thanks very much

Hi
In my opinion newspaper reports are just transcripts of the inquest. My ancestor committed suicide in 1894 and the inquest survived and this was after I had found the newspaper reports. Around 90% of what was in the inquest I had already found out in local newspapers.
Newspapers can be very valuable where original police, court and coroners records havent survived. In a way they are similar to Bishops Transcripts of PRs, just Newspaper Transcripts of these types of records.

Roz, if any inquest records do survive they will be at the Surrey History Centre (http://www.surreycc.gov.uk/surreyhistoryservice) in Woking. They have a good online catalogue. I think the coroner's district would be Western Surrey, but I don't know if they have any dispositions for that district at that date.

It was West Surrey. I've emailed the Surrey History Centre to inquire whether they have the records.
Thank you very much for this assistance.
